The gear box and gear box lid of the #831 coupler needs to be slightly modified to fit over the post (boss) and between the side walls of the drawbar.

File the two small steps on the side of the gear box shank to fit snugly in the drawbar channel (see fig. 1). File a little at a time, both sides equally, to be sure of the tightest fit. The two small ridges on the gear box must be removed and the lid must be trimmed off leaving approximately 5/16" (see fig. 2).

Assemble the coupler according to its instructions. Slip the coupler over the post and check the fit. If necessary, file the cut end of the gear box lid to fit snugly, it should snap into place. Secure with the original screw.

If the coupler is too low use one of the white .010" shims (or what is needed) folded in half under the rear of the draft gear box, thus, lowering rear and raising the knuckle. The drawbar is rather flexible and may bend down some when the coupler is brought across the magnetic uncoupler. A piece of plastic could be cemented into the channel to stiffen the drawbar.
