Remove original "link & pin" coupler pocket trim off the tabs (steps) on the sides of the gear box shank and file smooth. Assemble the coupler according to its instructions.
The round "nub" or boss on the coupler mount is slightly too large to fit into the hole of the gear box shank. File evenly around the boss until the gearbox fits properly. Place Assembled gearbox on the mount and mark the location for the mounting screw. Carefully drill a 3/32" hole in the marked location. Do not drill all of the way through the mount, just part of the way.
Place coupler on the mount and use the original screw to secure. The screw will only go in a couple of turns but it is enough to hold the coupler securely in place.

Note: if you are using a whole line of these cars with extended draw bars, then you would only need to put couplers on the first and last cars.
