MARKLN AMERICAN PASSENGER CAR

 #819 Flex Bracket

Remove  the original coupler assembly including mounting bracket (tongue). Remove the 4 screws behind the wheels along the inside of the truck frame and slide the coupler bracket out.

Remove the roof by lifting carefully but firmly to unsnap the spring tabs holding it in place.

Remove the 2 screws at each end of the car.

Make a mounting platform (plate) .255" (1/4") thick x 1.50" (1 1/2") wide and 1.55" (1 29/64") long from plastic or suitable material. A combination of thicknesses can be glued together and then cut, filed or sanded to size.

Drill holes according to the pattern and measurements illustrated. Use a 1/8" drill for the  .125" holes and use a #43 drill for the .089" holes. Tap the .089" holes for #4-40 screws.

Mount the platform to the floor with #4-40 x 1/2" screws and nuts in the empty screw holes at the end of the car.

File or notch out the corners of the flex bracket as illustrated for wheel clearance. Cut the end off the flex bracket as shown. Notch out the front side of the gear box as shown in fig. 12 of the assembly instructions. Assemble the flex bracket and coupler per instructions.

Mount the flex bracket assembly to the platform with the appropriate screws according to the bracket instructions.

Check for correct coupler height, function, and clearance and make any adjustments necessary.
