USA TRAINS 44 TON SWITCHERItems needed are: 2 of 4-40 x 1/2" #831 'G' Scale Invert the locomotive and place on a soft surface to avoid scratches or damage. Remove the original coupler by removing the rear screw holding the coupler to the mounting platform, lift off the coupler and centering spring. File or grind a small amount (1/32") off the rear of the gear box shank (it may be easier to trim the end before the coupler is assembled). Remove only enough so that when the end of the shank is against the front wall of the truck the screw can be slipped through the hole of the shank and platform. The screw should be off center and against the front edge of the hole of the platform. The end of the gear box shank, should be tight against the truck so it can not turn when secured. If too much is trimmed from the end of the shank and it is not tight enough when mounted, you can slip a shim between the shank end and the truck to tighten the fit. (Use a very small drop of CA or a Walthers "Goo" type of glue to secure the shim if needed.) Assemble the coupler according to its instructions and mount on the top of the platform, then secure with the #4-40 screw through the top and the washer and nut on the bottom. |
